March 5, 2012 " What a blessing to be a Missionary"

Hey mom and dad,
wow what a week!

I'm almost done reading Mark in the bible, and I'm just falling in love with that book.... its got so much in it.  On top of that I'm learning to become more like Christ.  I can't believe that I'm here where I am. I have made many changes to myself. I'm speaking Spanish like a native, but some people see that I'm a Gringo, so that starts to shut off their ears when I'm speaking.

In this change with Elder Valero, I'm learning alot more about how to work with others to get the work done, as the famous white chief use to say,¨many hands make light work´´ and its so true we have changed the light in the house. haha!   No, I'm just kidding about that. My life is not the same any more, I have had so many experience similar to the story of Abraham and Isaac, to the story of Nephi preaching unto his brothers.

I love the mission so much, I really don't know if I can leave it all.... to tell the truth I really don't want to. I have fallen in love with the Lords work and with the people here in Uruguay. I have gained a lot of confidence in my Lord and in myself.   What a blessing it is to be a missionary of my Lord and Savior , Jesus Christ. I have and am giving all my heart, mind, and strength to the Lord.  Its funny because sometimes we get caught up in everyday life, just doing to normal things, and we miss seeing all the things which the Lord has done with us, we close our eyes in seeing his hand in all things. We must all put forth an effort to the Lord in all things, and heed his counsel for every decision that we make. He is there only to help us. We must always help the Lord when we can, even if we have to open our mouth to speak.

Gid and Emily, things that we do now will affects us in the future. We always have to do the best we can because at that very moment when we take that small shoulder plate (piece of Armor) off from protecting us, that is when Satan will strike and sometimes mom and dad wont be there to protect us. I'm so grateful that mom and dad where there at those time when Satan struck hard, I was alone on the ground shot by fiery darts, in pain, but then mom and dad can out of the woods running to protect me.... and I am eternally grateful for their love for me. Remember my brother Gideon and my sister Emily, the family is always safer then being alone.

I love you all with all of my heart, and I'm doing all that can to change into that brother and son, etc., that God wants me to be.

With all of my love,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

February 26, 2012 - Planting and Harvesting

Haha! wow! I'm so close... NOOO!!!!!!!!!! I'm so old now.  I'm the same age as you guys got married.. haha!
Hey mom and dad thank you so much for the package that you sent. It's great to get a package from you guys, and I really was in need of everything other then the antiperspirant deodorant.. do you remember mom that I can't wear that stuff, it smells ten times worse then without it, haha! But thank you anyways!  So mom you asked why were we dropping a lot of people, well it is because they weren't progressing.. My heart hurts so much when I feel that we have to drop someone.. but I really liked that analogy about Johnny Appleseed, it is exactly like that.  With the sowing and the seeds that I have been applying to my life now. I have made it a goal to do my best even though I will be moving on, the others that come after me.  Hopefully they will have a harvest that of which I helped prepare for them.  haha! It is a really neat thought.

So hows that Spanish? It's alot harder then it looks huh? haha! But hey, its worth it to communicate with others who don't speak English, for example, when I was working at Kmart there were the Mexican workers that didn't speak much English and I always wanted to talked with them, but all we said was hi and how are you. I wish that I can talk with them now that I understand and talk espaƱol.

Emily, Little sis, remember who you are, you are the daughter of Tom and Kim Gomm, and a daughter of God, did you know all 3 of them watch and try to help you? Do you know they cry when we cry and laugh when we laugh and it breaks their hearts when we do wrong and they jump for joy when we do that which is right? Do  you know that? That goes the same for you Gid, they love us more then we think they do, you`ll understand someday trust me. ;)

Mom and dad make sure  you keep your effort in your callings, in the best of time and in the worst of times. Magnify it as much as you can, because our job as the children of God is to build his kingdom here upon the earth before the coming of his son Jesus Christ. He IS coming!! And I can´t wait to be at His feet to kiss them and wipe them with my tears and then give Him the biggest hug that I can.... and to give our Father in Heaven a hug and never let go even if there is a line behind me.. haha!
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD MY GOD!!!

Please tell Grandpa J to keep himself safe because we still need to go find that gold when I get back. Tell Grandma J to hurry up and get the therapy over with because I'm on my way home and we need to play some more dice. haha!

I love you all so much, tell Grandma Gomm that I'm trying very hard to figure out how to crochet... wow.. I never knew how hard it was... haha! Also tell Grandpa Gomm thank you for all the work he does for our heavenly family so that they can return home. Tell them both that we will go and do some temple work there in the Star Valley temple, I have decided to make that my temple. haha!

I love you all so very much, with all my heart,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

February 20, 2012 "Just Make the difference!!"

MERRY  belated VALENTINES DAY!!!!!!  Well, I'd say valentines day here gets a little bit too crazy. They say that if you give someone a special type of candy it means that you want to kiss them.... well, I stayed away from that candy. But for this valentines day I gave all my love to my family and to the Lord.

I haven't got a package yet, but may be tomorrow. Thank you so much though I always love getting things from home.

Emily!!! Whats going on,  your just fainting all over the place. You better watch out because some cute boy just might run up and catch you. Then what do you think Gid would have to do about that? ;)

Malorie the funny thing about Rob is that I know his best friend, Elder Pace. He is one change ahead of me, and man it sounds like he is a really nice guy.

Mom and Dad, about the trip for you guys to come down here, I think it would be great! How's your Spanish coming along?¿como anadan tratando a hablar dos idiomas? Un pocito dificilya yo se.  Yes, don't forget to talk with President Heaton about the trip.

So my mission life  is very fast pace..sometimes its hard just to stop and think.  We have to be thinking 24/7 even when we go to bed at night. It's a crazy life, but you know what i'ts worth it. I love my life here, I think it will be really hard to go back home... I'm just so use to life as a missionary. We have been finding and dropping, alot... its just that we aren't finding those who will progress.

I actually was feeling really low yesterday at church... I felt like I was just getting in the way of things, then as I was giving a silent prayer, I  heard these words come to me,´´ Just make the difference´´. It was funny because I was saying to Heavenly Father' " why I couldn't make the difference", and he told me just do it. haha. I don't need to know why or how, I just need to know what needs to be done and then do it.

I love you all so very much,

Mom and Dad, know that I give thanks everyday for what you two have given me, not only counsel, but an eternal family, that is something I will never give up even for ten thousend bags of cash, you guys mean more to me then you can even imagine. Thank you

Love,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

February 13, 2012 - Where are you going?

Where are you going?

Elder Gomm - We were in Paysandu for pday and we had to catch our bus to get back to Young.  So yeah, that's why I had to go so fast. So I'm going to try to send pictures. IN COMING!!!!

Here are some Photos (fotos) from my last change.

Elder Gomm and his companion Elder Layva (Peru)

Elders in Young Uruguay: Elder Gomm, Elder Leyva, Elder Webster and Elder Belk
So as I read about what Gideon said to Violet at the Stake Dance, I was laughing so hard that people started to stare at me. Well thats the little brother I remember trying to make things embaressing but fun. way to go gidkid! haha!
This week was great, alot of great stuff happened, we are still having trouble getting people to church. A highlight was a little revelation to my mind, when the apostle Peter had no idea what to do when Christ left this earth.  They decided to go fishing, then saw Christ on the shore and Peter jumped in the water to get to Jesus. They then had a little feast there and Christ turned to Peter and asked him an important question, he asked,´´ Peter do you love me?´´ Lord you know I do´´ then feed my sheep.´´ Three times Jesus asked that question.  When I got done with reading that part in Mathew I heard in my head and heart, ´´ Elder Gomm do you love me? Then feed my sheep´´.. I have promised the Lord that I will give it my all, more then that, I will help bring forth the gospel of Jesus Christ to EVERY kindred, tongue and people.
I hope all is well with you all, hope you like that Photos (fotos) that I sent and know that I wouldn't give up my family even if my life was at risk. I love you all so very much.
Love, Elder Timothy V. Gomm

Trying to apply all that Christ did - February 6, 2012

So mom and dad I'm writing to you both because I need to hurry to caught my bus. (Not sure where he is going)...

Well, my new companion is great, he is from Mexico and we have many plans
for helping out our area.

Your getting a new car....well dad I was laughing so hard when I read about taking the scouts on trips, I
remember that. Wow was it really 9 years.. so many trips, even that
time that we couldn't get up that hill when we were going to go look
at a house in Boise. haha! Fun times, and adventures.  Thanks for the memories.

Mom that lesson sounds great, it is so true how everything we do will effect others even if we don't think it will.  I actually am reading in Mathew 15 right now,and it is so amazing how many milagros that Christ did. I'm just trying to apply all that he did. and live that way in my life.

I'm sorry for the short letter this week, I'll make up for it next week,
I love you all so very much,
Love Elder Timothy V. Gomm

I'm Staying, It's going to be Great - January 29,2012

Sorry my email is so short this week, I emailed another family member that I felt needed it. Know I love you all!

So changes are here, I will be staying in Young for another change and
Elder Valero from Mexico is my new companion. Its going to be GREAT! I'm not district
leader this change, but that's ok president is giving another Elder the opportunity for training.
Which I'm glad there is only 4 of us here and he should be the district leader. The Lord has a plan for each one of us.

Life on the mission is great. So Elder Leyva is headed to Montevideo do some work in the city, I sure am going to miss him, he was one of my favorite companions. So here is the email for
this week, I'll have to make it up next week.

I love you all so very much,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm,

I'm doing great here in Uruguay - Christmas Photos January 22, 2012

Next week is changes, this is our last week together, me and Elder Leyva. I have been here in Young for about 3 months now, and it has been pretty hot.  I love the members here, they are really great people. We are doing everything that we can to have the members help us out as well as teaching and finding. We actually have an activity this Friday, we are going to have a cine and watch jose smith el profeta de la restauracion, is going to be great. Mom you asked if they teach Gospel Doctrine classes here, well they do in some parts of Uruguay, but here they don't here because its a branch and they don't have many members yet. Mom you asked if I needed anything, well, I need deodorant big time and my shoes,I still have to take pictures of them and send them. As for my socks, well they have been worn for a year and some now and ties are ok, but my shirts.... lets just say I'm glad your not here to see how yellow and nasty they are... haha! But hey I sweat alot here it is really hot, I cant help it.  I know its disgusting... I cant help it, I'm in a 3rd world country where I need to wash my clothes in a bucket. But hey I'm trying to learn how to house keep, I think that my future wife will be pretty pleased how well I can wash the floor and do the dishes, I'm a pro at it now. haha!
Gid, just do what Grandpa J says, when you get up, you make your bed, it really does make for a happier day.
I'm doing great here in Uruguay, I'm learning so much about how everything works, physical, spiritual, temporal as well as eternal. I am so grateful for having such a great family. I love you all so much and I'm praying everyday and every night for all of you one by one.  I love you all.

Love your son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

Change, Who am I becoming? January 16-2012

Hey momma!! Yep you can believe it, life is just running by... its kind of freaky, haha!

So my highlight of the week, is just like all my highlights. Change. I have learned so much and I'm changing. I love it!! Everything is just making more sense to me, and I'm trying my very best to apply all the attribute of Christ and ... haha I'm starting to cry. That makes sense too, everything that he did for me, for us... yep, I'm the emotional son. Haha! I'm starting to ready the Bible and its making sense, I just got done with the sermon on the mount, wow! What serious and powerful words.  Mom, I'm changing, and I'm following the same foots steps as my savior. How is it that we just don't know... haha, we are just a little speck of sand compared to the whole universe.... but we have SO MUCH purpose. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF MY GOD, IN ALL HIS GLORY AND GOODNESS.
I love this work, its going to be so hard for me to go home. I love this people, I love Spanish, I love the work of my God, Savior, and King, even Jesus Christ.

So I'm going to be writing Grandma Gomm a letter today for her birthday so hopefully it will get there. How are they doing? Grandma better remember things a little bit better, haha! I'm talking with a voice of a trumpet, so grandpa will be able to hear me, haha! Tell them that I love them so much.

Tell Grandma Johnson to not do her cartwheels for a couple months, or at least till I get back, and tell grandpa to keep on helping grandma, because we all know how much grandma likes doing the extreme. Tell them that I love them as well.

I did take some money out of my account because I didn't have any money to live off of.  I truly think this city that I'm in is just so expensive... its really crazy.

Tell everyone I love them for me and know that you're all in my prayers,

Love Elder Timothy V. Gomm

PS. You are going to get alot of photos someday, when I can get it working. haha!

Testify and see God at work - January 9-2012

Elder Gomm got word that his grandma fell and broke her ankle this week:

GRANDMA!!!!!!!!!!! STOP IT!!! Oh grandma, you have to still play the dice game with me when I get back, how are were suppose to play Ticket to ride if you keep hurting yourself. haha! I love you grandma, please be safe. You still have to be alive when I get back! I mean it, take care of yourself!

Hey mom, need to get an address for Megan again, I need to send her a letter.  Did you give loves to Aunt Lynette and Uncle Mike for me?

So I'm going to take some pictures of my shoes (they are falling apart after 1 year of use:}) , and the thing about pictures here in Young, they don't work very well to send, so I'm going to have to figure something out for next week. sorry, I keep trying to send pictures but it's not working.

This week we taught a class at church about testifying. I was a really great class,  we taught about Brigham Young and his conversion to the gospel.  Brigham was taking lessons from the missionaries for a year, and he didn't feel anything.  Wen the missionaries were teaching in the house of his family they had brought another member to the lesson, and at the end of the lesson the missionary asked for the member to share his testimony.  This member was timid,  have very much experience in talking in public, he didn't talk much, be he said,`` I know that Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God, and I know that the Book of Mormon is true and has the entire message of the eternal gospel´´ and then sat down.  Members can have great power when they testify. We are young men from other countries with different cultures, but the members here in Uruguay are the missionaries that will be here long after we have gone.  Missionary work isn't just for young people, its for ALL the saints of Zion, and we need to help our brothers and sisters to know the truth and find Christ in their lives.

I love you all so much, know that I am  praying for you all, tell grandma and grandpa to not play with the bull anymore. haha!

Love Timothy V. Gomm

January 2, 2012

Dear Family

Well...I had photos to send... I don't know where they went. hmm.

I feel different,  I actually don't want to leave its not enough time for me. I just figured out that I'll be done with my mission 3 weeks after the day that I entered, so in January of next year. That's what I hear. I'm still running out of time.

So this last week was great, we had a lot going on. We climbed up on the roof to watch the fireworks for New Years. Here in Uruguay its like the forth of July there in the USA, they spend some much money for Christmas and New Years just on fireworks, it was really neat. There was a lot of noise and smoke, but then we had to get down and go to bed, lock the doors etc. There were a lot of drunk people in the streets, good thing we were on the roof, a lot safer then being in the streets.

This week we are planning on finding people who want to know more of Jesus Christ. I need to plan for district meeting and I need to go to another city for dlc, district leader counsel. So its kind of a full week.  I'm so jealous that you guys are going to visit the Rybergs, you have to tell them I say hi, as well as to Aunt Lynette and Uncle Mike. Oh and while you are there say hi to Abraham Lincoln too.

Well, I hope all is well with you all,  I love you all so very much, thank you for your love and support, and I'll be heading home before you can say ``noodles´´!

Love,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

Christmas Call and December 26, 2011 Email

We were able to call Elder Gomm in Young Uruguay.  It was great to hear his loving voice and know that he is doing well.  Elder Gomm is doing great in his language of Spanish, so much  that we had to have him repeat himself in English.   There were a few times he wanted to tell us something and he forgot the English work for it.  It was so fun to hear from him.  We each got to have 10 minutes to talk to him and it was so hard to give the phone to the next person because we all so wanted to keep talking to our son/brother.  I tell you what that phone call was the best thing about Christmas this year!!  Elder Gomm left almost 1 year ago.  His journey as a servant of the Lord is almost half over.  He doesn't like that kind of talk to much because he loves what he is doing and how much he is changing. Elder Gomm is doing great.  We ask all his family and friends to  pray for him and continue to write.
Momma Gomm

From Elder Gomm on the 26th of December:

WOW!!! It was great to hear all of you guys voices, know that every word that I said I meant it. I was trying to help all of you as much as I could... Mal, you know who you are. Gid, I have your back, and always will. Emmy, STOP GROWING SO FAST!!!! Where's my baby sis gone?  Mom and Dad, thank you for everything, you guys have played a very important role in my life, all those counsels, all those warnings, they make sense, yes, even though I didn't look in your eyes when you guys were talking to me sometimes. Often facing the other way... I just wanted to say, I was listening. I love you all so very much.

The work here in the service of the Lord isn`t easy. I`ve had nights crying myself to sleep. The kingdom of the Almighty God never WAS and never WILL be easy. To talk with you all was one of the best Christmas wishes that I have ever received.  I love you all so much. Thank you all for playing a part, an important part in my life.

I know that My God is there and He is watching out for me, though I cant see Him with my mortal eyes, I feel His presence when ever I find myself praying to Him. What a blessing we have to be members of this church of the Most High God. Never take it for granted, always follow the rules, even the trivial ones. The blessings are set for all of us, all we have to do is act.
I love you all with all my heart, everyone of you.

Love,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

P.S. I don't have my camera with me... sorry I'll have to send some next week. Love you.

Letter From Elder Gomm's Mission President - December 22, 2011

Dear Brother and Sister Gomm,

Your son, Elder Gomm, has been called to serve as a District Leader.  I have confidence that he will perform his new calling well.  He seems excited to assume his new responsibilities.

Your missionary's call to be a District Leader is an indication of his effectiveness as a missionary.  He will be responsible for training the missionaries in his area to be more effective missionaries, to help them to be successful and happy and also to set an obedient example.  He has to conduct baptismal interviews, work closely with other leaders and direct the work in his area.  Besides his duties as a District Leader , he is still responsible for finding and teaching and being an effective missionary.

You can be proud of his strength and leadership.  His training here will help prepare him for future service in the Church.  We love and appreciate your son, and appreciate your sacrifice in sharing him with us and the people of Uruguay.

We appreciate your support.  Anything you can do to encourage your missionary and stay in touch with him is good.  We love these missionaries as dearly as our own children.  Our desire is that they find joy in the Lord's service.  May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.

Sincerely,

President Heaton
Uruguay Montevideo West Mission

Young is where I am staying - December 20, 2011

So here is the update! ONE MORE CHANGE (Transfer) DOWN!!!

I'm am staying in Young with my companion, Elder Leyva, but here is the switch, I am now
district leader. WOW!!!  That means I need to work just that much harder! Hey, I just opened an area, so anything is possible.

So we need to figure out the Christmas call, we will need to switch it to 3 o'clock
not 4, if that is ok. We have a 5 hour difference.

What's happening here... it is getting really hot here, I almost died today playing
soccer. We tried to take pictures but I'm going to have to copy them
from some other cameras.

So how is everyone doing? Gideon, you being good?  Emily I took a picture of an ambulance that had your name on it, I thought is was pretty cool. I'll have to send it next week.
I got my birthday package and 2 Christmas packages. I gave the other three Elders their presents, they all say thanks so much.

I'm teaching my companion English and he is doing very well.
Can't wait to talk to you all on Christmas Day!

I love you all,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm
