Letter From Elder Gomm's Mission President - December 22, 2011

Dear Brother and Sister Gomm,

Your son, Elder Gomm, has been called to serve as a District Leader.  I have confidence that he will perform his new calling well.  He seems excited to assume his new responsibilities.

Your missionary's call to be a District Leader is an indication of his effectiveness as a missionary.  He will be responsible for training the missionaries in his area to be more effective missionaries, to help them to be successful and happy and also to set an obedient example.  He has to conduct baptismal interviews, work closely with other leaders and direct the work in his area.  Besides his duties as a District Leader , he is still responsible for finding and teaching and being an effective missionary.

You can be proud of his strength and leadership.  His training here will help prepare him for future service in the Church.  We love and appreciate your son, and appreciate your sacrifice in sharing him with us and the people of Uruguay.

We appreciate your support.  Anything you can do to encourage your missionary and stay in touch with him is good.  We love these missionaries as dearly as our own children.  Our desire is that they find joy in the Lord's service.  May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.

Sincerely,

President Heaton
Uruguay Montevideo West Mission

Young is where I am staying - December 20, 2011

So here is the update! ONE MORE CHANGE (Transfer) DOWN!!!

I'm am staying in Young with my companion, Elder Leyva, but here is the switch, I am now
district leader. WOW!!!  That means I need to work just that much harder! Hey, I just opened an area, so anything is possible.

So we need to figure out the Christmas call, we will need to switch it to 3 o'clock
not 4, if that is ok. We have a 5 hour difference.

What's happening here... it is getting really hot here, I almost died today playing
soccer. We tried to take pictures but I'm going to have to copy them
from some other cameras.

So how is everyone doing? Gideon, you being good?  Emily I took a picture of an ambulance that had your name on it, I thought is was pretty cool. I'll have to send it next week.
I got my birthday package and 2 Christmas packages. I gave the other three Elders their presents, they all say thanks so much.

I'm teaching my companion English and he is doing very well.
Can't wait to talk to you all on Christmas Day!

I love you all,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm

Can't wait for CHRISTMAS - December 12, 2011

We are all so excited for Christmas day it is one of two times we get to talk to our missionary on the phone. Other then that we only get an email once a week and letters in the mail when he has time to write.  So if we are being to excited about Christmas arriving hopefully you will better understand. We all miss our Timothy and can't wait to hear his voice.

So I asked him about his dreams, whether they were in English or Spanish and this is his response:

I'm dreaming in both... but its never confusing, its actually pretty cool.

Christmas is coming, and fast.  It is a 5 hour difference from Idaho time to Uruguay time, so I'm thinking at 4 clock your time on Christmas day for our phone call, how does that sound to you guys?

I cant wait to talk with you all!!! I'm so excited to hear all of your voices! wow! I cant believe it its already Christmas. I don't have enough time.. I have to get my hurry on or my mission will be over before I know it. This is a once in a life time service.

Mom you asked if I write in English or Spanish in my journal, well I write some in  Spanish but most of it is in English.  I need to get caught up, its just hard some days to write in my journal, so I write down what happens in the day and go back and write in it later. There isn't alot of time to relax and think or write. I'm doing my best with my journal.

Tell the Robinson's hi for me, and I expect to see them when I get back, I want to shake their hands and give them a big hug. Give them my love mom and that they are in my prayers and that I'm thinking of them.

I don't have much time left today to write more, we are running late. I love you all, be safe.

The JOY of Bringing others to the Gospel - December 5, 2011

Mom, I REALLY don't like dentist offices..... I'm still having pains in my teeth, sometime I need to take ibuprofen at night to stop the pain....man I have had some nights with terrible pains. its not too often that it happens.

I just got done writing Elder Flores, he´s doing great, he is in the first stage of the mission, I was in that boat for a long of time it seemed, he´ll be doing fine here soon.

Just three weeks and I will be at the half way mark of my mission, time where has it all gone.!?

So the baptism was great!!! I had the opportunity to baptise Angelica, she got so nervous. haha!  She lives behind one of the member here and they are really great friends.  She had been taught by the missionaries for a very long time, like more then 2 years, when we were trying to meet and get to know the members here we meet Angelica.  At her interview with the District Leader she told him that when she saw us passing by she thought to herself , "they are the ones who are going to baptise me".  Here we are!!  She is a really great lady!  I love the work of the Lord so very much!! well I love you all so very much!!! Be safe and have fun!

Picture:

Fun in the sun, crossing campo, outback wood lands, i don't know what to call them in English anymore.

Trespassing? Or just messing around?

This is how you get rid of the troubles of life, Stomp on them with the help of Jesus Christ.

You are never alone, when you talk with God.  He is always there for you.

What a great resting place Elder Gomm...... NOT!!

Happy Thanksgiving - November 28, 2011

I have the opportunity speak every month in sacrament meeting here in Young.  I love reading mateo 14, about pedro andando sobre agua. (Matthew 14, About Peter walking on water) for those of us who don't know Spanish yet.

This week has been fast and slow, I feel something changing inside of me, everything is making sense, and I really don't know what to do...The Lord has been by my side that is for sure.

Good news, we are having another baptism this Saturday the 3rd I'm so excited. This sister has been rejecting all the missionaries but excepted when we passed by. Is this why I am here?

Its already passed thanksgiving, and its starting to feel like Christmas, well not really.

The mission is just like a hill, its what I've heard from the older missionaries. You start up the hill in the CCM, then you push with all your might, you have times when you slow down.  I'm looking at the top of the hill right now, I'm almost there, but I've heard that going down goes by really fast. So far I'm just trying to do the best that I can, and I hurt, not only my legs from walking everywhere, but my heart is beating so hard... and it hurts every time you get the doors slammed in your face. I'm always trying... but I've been on this hill for so long. (sigh) but I am not giving up, there are people here that need me, and I need them.  There are those who are looking, I will do and not just try, 'Do or do not, there is no try."

I love you all so much, always remember, though we want to do the things that looks fun to do or we feel like we want to do something else, the work and will of the Lord will go forth, to all nations, tongue and people.

I love you all so much,
Elder Timothy V. Gomm
